Our Award winning PADI Course Directors.
Ban’s team of award winning and Platinum PADI Course Directors are some of the highest qualified and experienced in the world. Together Tim Hunt, Monique Richards and Natalie Hunt have more than 65 years of diver training between them.
Meet the team:
Tim Hunt – Tim, originally from Canada, has been a PADI Course Director for 15 years and has taught in Thailand, Grand Cayman and North America. Having worked directly for PADI as a Territory Director, Tim has been able to make connections with industry leaders, dive professionals and PADI dive centres across Asia Pacific and is excited to share these unique experiences with Ban’s IDC candidates. As a PADI Examiner, Tim is certainly up-to-date with training standards, quality management and teaching approaches for professional level divers.
Monique Richards – Monique has been a PADI Instructor since 2002. She has dived and worked in exotic locations which include Thailand, Egypt, Australia, India, Greece, Malaysia, Fiji and Mexico. Beyond her experience in diver training, Monique brings a wealth of knowledge with respect to dive retail, sales and resort management.
Noteably, Monique is passionate about the underwater environment and is part of a team (which includes Tim and Natalie) of marine conservationists who regularly transplant and monitor corals as part of an underwater reef conservation project. She is also one of our IDC LIVE online instructors, regularly teaching the IDC curriculum to candidates all around the globe.
Natalie Hunt – Natalie, originally from Australia, is one of the most experienced PADI Course Directors in the world. With 23 years of teaching diving, her knowledge and entertaining approach to diver education will keep you hooked and wanting to learn more. In addition, she enjoys the challenge of planning and executing tec dives, sidemount dives and self-reliant dives.
Natalie is truly a global citizen having dived and worked in Thailand, Grand Cayman, British Virgin Islands, Egypt, Canada and Australia. She currently manages Assava Dive Resort and teaches IDCs but loves to keep her hand in teaching beginner courses too. She is one of the most inspired, motivated and active dive instructors on the planet!
The most flexible IDC schedule in the world.
We have scheduled two IDC options for you to choose from. Perfect if you have limited vacation time from work.
The first is the more traditional 14 day IDC. This will include classroom workshops in the morning, followed by in-water work in the afternoons (schedule may change)
The second is a completely unique schedule, exclusive to our Course Directors. Complete half your IDC online at home, and half in person at Ban’s. The online sessions run twice per month over 7 consecutive days, 3 hours per day. Once you have completed the IDC online, you will just need 8 days in-water at Ban’s to finish. The in-water section will take place during the 8 days prior to any IE.
The IDC is two courses in one.
The IDC consists of two courses combined – Assistant Instructor and Open Water Scuba Instructor. It is designed to introduce techniques for teaching in a classroom, a confined water environment and also in open water. You will practice more advanced dive theory, as well as perfect the demonstration quality scuba skills you first mastered on your PADI Divemaster course. In addition, at Ban’s, we schedule time during the IDC program for Emergency First Response Instructor Training and include Oxygen Provider Instructor Training.
You will be introduced to the entire PADI system of diver education as well as the latest Business & Marketing trends in the industry. We will, also look at environmental concerns and make sure you understand the standards and risk management knowledge necessary for a qualified PADI Scuba Diving Instructor.
On completion of the IDC, PADI’s external examiners will make sure you meet the required standard, in the 2 day PADI Instructor Examination (IE).

We were taught everything you need to know to become an Instructor, and more. The Course Directors Monique and Natalie spent extra time in the evenings helping us with Dive Theory, so that our Instructor exams seemed easy.

The Bans Pro Dive team are amazing trainers. They are patient and calm and provide an in-depth course that both reviews the dive master programme but leaves ample time to learn all the IDC teaching skills. You leave confident you can teach others from the moment you pass your exams.
