Your Course Director
Darren Schlotter – Darren originally from England took over the running of the IDC’s in June 2024 and achieved his PADI Platinum Course Director status before the end of that same year. Having worked full time for Ban’s for over 10 years, teaching a whole host of recreational courses, Darren has a wealth of teaching experience and has also dove in exotic locations such as Egypt, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Dominican Republic, Australia and Greece.
Darren was a Financial Analyst & Portfolio Manager in his previous career and draws upon that experience to help his IDC candidates plan their path within the industry utilising business planning, marketing and social media management techniques, while still keeping his IDC’s fun and interactive.
The IDC is two courses in one.
The IDC consists of two courses combined – Assistant Instructor and Open Water Scuba Instructor. It is designed to introduce techniques for teaching in a classroom, a confined water environment and also in open water. You will practice more advanced dive theory, as well as perfect the demonstration quality scuba skills you first mastered on your PADI Divemaster course. In addition, at Ban’s, we schedule time during the IDC program for Emergency First Response Instructor Training and include Oxygen Provider Instructor Training.
You will be introduced to the entire PADI system of diver education as well as the latest Business & Marketing trends in the industry. We will, also look at environmental concerns and make sure you understand the standards and risk management knowledge necessary for a qualified PADI Scuba Diving Instructor.
On completion of the IDC, PADI’s external examiners will make sure you meet the required standard, in the 2 day PADI Instructor Examination (IE).
